Name types

Sanction records from entities usually carry multiple names with different classifications across each source. We have standardized the set of name types to a consistent closed set. Every item in the names[] array of a sanctions record carries a type indicating what kind of name it is, so you can weight a primary name differently from a nickname when you screen.

The set is closed: the contract declares these six values and a response carries nothing else, so widening it is a schema change.

primary

The name the entity is listed under.

alias

An alternative name the source asserts.

weak_alias

A weaker form such as a nickname or a partial name. Not reliable on its own.

original_script

The name in its original writing system.

non_latin

A non-latin representation.

other

Anything the source does not classify to the existing taxonomy.
